2009 WFF World Championships - The Women & Couples

Held in Lebach, Germany, on 31st October, 2009, this major international bodybuilding and fitness event attracted an outstanding quality field of competitors from around the world. The WOMEN’S DVD covers all the action from the Women's Classes listed below and the Couples Class:

The DVD includes the 3 complete rounds for every class, including the posing routines of every single competitor along with the awards and overall section posedown where relevant.

Of particular interest is the emerging new Russian star in the WOMEN SUPERBODY CLASS by the name of Zhavora. From the body language of the Russian runner up, Natalia Zhavora, she felt that the judges had a bad day in placing Kristina Kudynova ahead of her. Even though she looks unhappy in our photo taken at the awards, we are using it any way on the front cover (left) to show what outstanding potential she has and what a physique this young lady has already achieved. I feel she is a future NABBA Universe Class winner with her symmetrical shape, clean lines, muscularity and excellent genetics.

Countries to dominate at this year's contest were Lithuania and Slovenia. This was an amazing effort from such small countries. The contest was expertly run and promoted by Tamara Konz.

1995 NABBA Universe: The Men - Prejudging

This year we did something special to mark the 25th time we have covered the NABBA Universe on film or video.

The first was back in 1970 when the winners were Arnold Schwarzenegger (Professional), Frank Zane (Amateur) and Christine Zane in the women's event.

Held in Birmingham, UK on October 14th in the wonderful I.C.C., we had two camera crews covering the 150 competitors and the day's proceedings. You will see pump room action (men and women), interviews with the top competitors and a 2 camera production at the Evening Show.

We also produced the video some of you saw on Eurosport TV in UK and Europe - another first for the NABBA Universe!

The DVD includes some pump room action, and interviews. However, we have a new format for the Men's Prejudging DVD.

There is the usual Round 1 (symmetry). However, in response to customer demand, we have included EXTRA round 3 (comparisons) and only the posing routines of those who did not make it into the top 6.

Some Major Highlights Include:

Pax Beale from USA - The oldest competitor ever at 65 years.
John Citrone winning consecutive Masters titles. Amazing condition! 34 years in competition!
Grant Clemesha winning the first ever overall Amateur Mr. Universe title by an Australian. He is still the only such winner as at 2008.
Brian Buchanan (ex British competitor - now Australian) making it the men's double for Australia winning the Professional Universe. His last contest was the 1988 Mr. Olympia.
Shane Stratton winning the class title for Australia.
Mike King (UK) and Dennis James (USA) - now a top Pro, were other class winners.

This is the longest running and most prestigious event in the history of bodybuilding! The line stretches from Grimek and Reeves through Schwarzenegger to Grant Clemesha, Australia's first overall Amateur Men's winner in 1995.

DVD Review by Matt Canning:

Overall, I felt that his was an incredibly well produced DVD. That sort of suprised me because at the time the DVD was shot (and the time this review was uploaded - July 2005), Abbas was still an amateur bodybuilder. The amazing thing is that this DVD was better produced than some DVDs from pro bodybuilders that I've seen - incredible. There is background music playing the whole time and it is artistic going back from full colour training scenes to black and white posing scenes.

All in all, this is a great DVD. Abbas also has a very charismatic, aggressive, and dominant personality. He would probably do incredibly well in the WWE. He is the type of outspoken person who draws people with his charisma. He's definitely a good public speaker and the possessor of many sound training principles, and knows how to apply and explain them. If you are a fan of bodybuilding videos or want to learn more about high intensity training (HIT), then this DVD is definitely for you. It is made by the same producer who produced Mike Mentzer's HIT DVD (2001).

Classic Collection # 4

This latest DVD in our Classic Collection series features the stars of the seventies in our priceless collection of the greatest names of the period. Kal Szkalak, Lee Haney as a Teenager, Sergio Oliva, Frank Zane versus Boyer Coe at the NABBA Universe, Bill Grant and many more. There is very little footage of Kal Szkalak available making this DVD a rare treat for Szkalak fans.

Seeing Lee Haney as a teenager reminds you of the enormous promise and potential he had back then which enabled him to later set the record (now shared by Ronnie Coleman), for the most Mr Olympia victories at 8.

Most of this rare film footage was shot by Wayne Gallasch in the early to mid 70s. In some instances it is the only known film of some of these stars. Background music added.

1985 AAU Junior Mr. & Miss America & Couples: The Show

This DVD is notable for the early appearance of a future international champion - double Mr. Universe winner VICTOR TERRA. The emerging young American champion VICTOR TERRA achieved his first major victory in USA. In 1988 Victor won the OVERALL AMATEUR NABBA UNIVERSE TITLE, please click here for PCB-089DVD. Held in Memphis, TN, this was one of the early shows that Wayne shot on video in USA. This is the most popular and important AAU Junior Nationals event of the year. See an outstanding posing display by the stars of the future, back in 1985. Many of them besides Victor Terra went on to some major achievements later in their careers. In the Couples section, Victor and Lisa Alvanos gave a sublime performance of grace, power and beauty.

75 minutes of Bill Pearl and Dave Draper answering a broad range of questions from IronOnline Bash attendees, and a dozen minutes with Ed Corney as he joins in the conversation for the fun of it. Here is what Wayne wrote in his 2007 Universe report: This year the physique class welcomed a brand new champion in the form of ALINA POPA of Romania. I felt that as soon as she walked out on stage in Round 1, I was looking at the winner. The judges agreed as Alina received almost all straight firsts. It was a most convincing victory for a new-comer to the International NABBA stage. Her physique was near faultless - best delts and arm size combination I have seen in years. The rest of her body - amazing.

2009 Mr. Olympia

The 2009 Mr. Olympia final was staged on September 26 at the Orleans Arena is Las Vegas, and turned out to be one of the most exciting in history. The field was loaded with stars such that the 2009 Olympia was unquestionably the most competitive lineup in the 44-year history of the event. With defending champion Dexter Jackson, two-time champ Jay Cutler, Iron Man Pro winners Phil Heath and Silvio Samuel, Arnold Classic winners in Kai Greene and Victor Martinez, the field was wide open.

It was JAY CUTLER'S big night as he created history! Jay's triumphant return to the victory position in capturing his third Mr. Olympia title was something never done before by a defeated former Mr Olympia winner. This left Branch Warren and Dexter Jackson fighting it out for second place with only a one-point difference between their scores.

Held in Southport, England on October 24th, the 2009 NABBA Universe Men's Prejudging & Show 2 DVD set brings you the complete NABBA Mr. Universe event for Amateurs and Professionals.

DISC #1 – The Men’s Prejudging.
This disc includes the complete posing routine of every single competitor, amateur and professional, line-ups of Round 1 and at least 3 sets of key comparisons from Round 3 for every class.

DISC #2 – Men at The Show.
You will see the posing routines of all top 6 amateur competitors in each class plus the posing of all Professional Mr. Universe competitors.

Includes the posedown for the Overall Amateur Mr. Universe, won by MARTIN KASAL of the Czech Republic, plus all awards. The Professional Mr. Universe winner was ALEXEY NETESANOV of Russia who finished just in front of PETR VANIS of the Czech republic.

Nigel Gordon-Rae along with the NABBA Council paid tribute to IVAN DUNBAR who passed away earlier this year. Ivan had attended every single Universe from 1948 to 2008. He was also a NABBA Official for a large number of years.

This is the first ever production of the NABBA Universe DVDs in brilliant Wide Screen 16:9 format.

2009 NABBA UNIVERSE - MEN'S PREJUDGING

Held in Southport, England on October 24th, the 2009 NABBA Universe Men's Prejudging provides an in-depth look at some of the best amateur and professional competitors in the world.

The DVD includes the complete posing routine of all competitors, Amateur & Professional, line-ups of Round 1 and key comparisons from Round 3 for every class.
The overall Amateur Mr. Universe winner was the shredded MARTIN KASAL of the Czech Republic and the Professional Mr Universe winner was popular and charismatic ALEXEY NETESANOV of Russia. Alexey was in the best shape of his life.
Of special note, this was the 3rd year in a row that NORTOM MURAYAMA of Brazil has won the Masters Over 40 Class.
This is a first ever production of the NABBA Universe DVD set that has been shot in brilliant Wide Screen 16:9 format.

1999 NABBA World Championships: Men & Women – Prejudging & Show
This is a 2 part "Super Contest" DVD.

In 1999 the NABBA World Championships was held at the SPORTHALLE CASINO-BADEN near Vienna, Austria on Saturday June 12th. In this massive DVD you will see all 10 classes from JUNIORS to MASTERS OVER 40, the 4 MEN’S OPEN classes, MISS FIGURE CLASSES 1 & 2, MISS PHYSIQUE and PAIRS. The contest was presented by NABBA Austria with 134 outstanding competitors from 18 different countries. The quality was the best seen in many years and was greatly appreciated by the 1000 cheering fans who attended. Thompson and Rosa are pictured front cover and Martinez rear cover.

1982 NABBA Universe - Amateur & Professional

The 1982 NABBA UNIVERSE - AMATEUR & PROFESSIONAL, was held at the huge Wembley Conference Centre, London on 18th September, 1982. The main stars of this event were Eduardo Kawak of Lebanon, Kal Szkalak and John Brown from USA, John Terilli from Australia and Terry Phillips from England. See more DVDs on Terilli and Kawak at the bottom of this page.

In the Women’s International Bikini class the red hot favourite was Jocelyn Pigeonneau who did not let her fans down. John Terilli's class victory was the first ever Universe victory by an Australian competitor. John later won the NABBA Pro Universe in 1994.

Ed Kawak won the Universe 5 times during his illustrious career and is pictured front cover in his signature pose. This record of 5 titles was later equalled by Eddy Ellwood who won his 5 Universe titles consecutively. Famous American Kal Szkalac was one of the training partners of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the latter stages of his career. Kal similarly had great charisma and was a standout at the Universe with his many fans. It was a pity that Kal did not come back again to claim the title that many said would be his for the taking!
Rod Koontz was another highly rated and very popular star from USA.

Best posing display was undountedly the virtusos performance from American posing legend and Overall Amateur Mr. Universe, JOHN BROWN. His unique and original style is continued today by such professional stars as Melvin Anthony.

The DVD was shot by one of our UK cameramen, and includes the main highlights of the whole event - from Prejudging and Show.

2009 NABBA/WFF Australian Championships

The 2009 NABBA & WFF National Championships were held at the South Sydney Junior Leagues Club, N.S.W. on October 11th, 2009. See the best male and female physiques in Australia at these National Championships for both NABBA and the WFF.

Teams were selected to compete in the NABBA Universe in England and the WFF Worlds in Germany. Around 100 athletes competed making this the biggest and best Australian & WFF Championships in many years. This massive widescreen presentation DVD brings you the complete event including Overall Posedowns and all awards. The Dual Layer disc is our equivalent of the usual 2 DVD set covering the whole contest for men and women. Separate DVDs for Men and Women are also available.

A host of bodybuilding identities attended the event including NABBA Universe dual winner John Terilli, who took to the stage to discuss his life after competitive bodybuilding with MC Nick Jones. Art Atwood & TJ Humphreys - Men of Steel

Art Atwood - I was born on December 27, 1973 in Wisconsin. I grew up on competitive sports, mainly football and track. I started training with weights when I was twelve to increase my speed and power. I was very fortunate to have coaches and an older brother who were knowledgeable and committed to intense training. They were my major motivators and taught me the basics of weight training.

Now, 16 years later, I have mastered the sport of bodybuilding. Taking my inner drive to be the best. I utilized all my efforts to transform my body into a walking form of "Art". Through mind blowing training sessions and by eating tremendous amounts of chickens and cows. I have built a body that is powerful and ultimately unique. God has blessed me to be able to take my passion for bodybuilding and use it to support myself and encourage others to get into the best shape of their lives.

I met T.J. at one of my contests through a mutual friend and after talking with him for only a few minutes, I could tell that he had "it." That "it" is very unique and rare quality that few people own. "It" is a fire that burns deep within and a personal drive to be the best. T.J. called me up one day and gave me an opportunity to come down to Dallas to build my supplement empire. Gratefully, I took the offer and things started to really happen for the both of us. We started training together and it was a BLAST! We mad this video to capture our sessions together and I believe you will really enjoy it!

Needless to say, T.J. scored a TON of photo opportunities at his show and I made a top 5 placing at my next professional contest. Both of us are enjoying the "lifestyle" that we created and we are here to share our experience with you! Train hard, live your life to the fullest, and God Bless!

T.J. Humphreys - I started bodybuilding in the summer of 2004 on a bet from a friend of mine in Colorado. He dared me to compete, and I had no desire to get up in front of a thousand people in a bikini, but Justin told me something that I will never forget... he asked me to compete for all of the guys out there who bust their asses in the gym but don't have the genetics to win. At that point, I felt obligated, and to this day, that drive and ambition is fuelled by the fact that God has given me the physique and the work ethic to excel in the sport of bodybuilding and fitness modelling.

I was "discovered" by Meredith Apel of Weider Publishing at the 2005 USA. She picked me and the eventual winner, Phil Heath, for their photo shoots that weekend. Out of 200 competitors, Phil and I were the chosen ones. Since then I have been cast to shoot two covers and 5 articles for Muscle and Fitness since the USA. And, in June of 2006, I got my first contract with Prolab Nutrition as their featured athlete, and have featured Prolab products in FLEX and Muscle and Fitness magazines.

I have been at it for two years, and it has been one helluva ride. I'm looking forward to what the future holds for me, so stay tuned!

Peter Wall - Junior Mr. World, Teenage Mr. Australia: what an incredible young physique! We filmed this talented youngster at his peak in 1989 when he took the junior bodybuilding World Championships by storm. Full of aesthetic grace, and awesomely symmetrical, Peter shows us his physique at its most incredible best. Just check out those extraordinary pecs and triceps - sheer perfection.

The video starts with Peter’s prize winning routine from the NABBA Universe and then leads into his informative interview. Peter tells us of his plans for the future, his hopes, dreams and aspirations. We see him working out in the studio, assisted by Mr. Personality himself, SHAUN DAVIS. Shaun, a Mr. Universe winner, is massive and compliments Peter’s superbly symmetrical and defined physique.

Finally our cameras follow Peter to Spain, where we share with him his thrilling victory as he wins the 1989 Junior Mr. World Championships. Since we taped this feature with Peter he has gone on to win the overall Mr. Australia title TWICE! Only a crippling back injury has prevented his becoming a top professional.

Shannon Monroe - Teenage Mr. America is a different type of physique from Peter. He is tall, handsome, and a couple of years younger. He has enormous potential, as he will undoubtedly pack a great deal more muscle onto his 6’ frame in the future.

Shannon pumps and poses his muscles in our London studio using dumbells, and other apparatus, until the sweat trickles down his well-defined body. This segment of 20 minutes also includes an interesting interview with Shannon. He was one of USA's finest young bodybuilders at the time we shot this feature.

Andreas Munzer - The Real Workout

This is the only workout video from the Austrian world champion and pro bodybuilder Andreas Munzer. It was produced just prior to his tragic death in 1996. This unique film shows his personal workout and nutrition strategy which made him one of the world-leaders of professional bodybuilding.

Munzer was said to be one of the most conditioned and shredded bodybuilders of all time. You can also see him in some of our FIBO videos.

Jacques Neuville: Mr. Universe gym workout and posing.

Jacques Neuville has been one of France's all time greatest physiques having competed with distinction in the Mr Olympia on a number of occasions. As a Mr Universe winner he displayed the classic aesthetic European lines which made him the idol of millions.

2001 EFBB Amateur Grand Prix

This top amateur Men’s Event was held in conjunction with the 2001 IFBB English Grand Prix, the winner to get his pro card and compete in the Pro Grand Prix that night. The brilliant winner was ALEX GEORGIJEV of Wales, and we interviewed him backstage after his victory.

1988 IFBB Australasia Bodybuilding Championships

The 1988 IFBB Australasia was held in Sydney - and it was a blockbuster, attracting the cream of Australia's bodybuilders. The largest crowd to date was in attendance with enthusiastic fans hanging from the rafters. Ian Riley walked away with top honors in the Men's Over 90kg Heavyweight division. His size, hardness and balance, coupled with a stylish posing display made him the male star of the show.

David Kilroy: Junior Champion

DAVID KILROY, an English Junior Physique Champion and powerlifting record holder was only 20 years old at the time this video was made. 1999 IFBB Women's Extravaganza Pro Championships

This was the first year for this contest, with 14 women competing for the Pro Extravaganza Bodybuilding title. Like the Ms. Olympia all were in chiselled condition.

The DVD was taped by the same crew that taped the Ms. Olympia competition - all organized by WPW. The entire prejudging and all 14 evening routines, posedowns and awards are included. 2009 Arnold Strongman Classic
A great title for USA!
The 2009 Arnold Strongman Classic saw only the third new champion crowned since its inception in 2002. This year the honors went to Connecticut police officer and World's Strongest Man runner-up, Derek Poundstone, who improved on his second placing in the 2008 Arnold Strongman event. It was a see-saw contest with the six time Russian National Weightlifting champion, Mikhail Koklyaev, and Poundstone separated by a solitary point at the end of the final event. Poundstone's incredible world record of 15 successful circus dumbell lifts sealed the title over the mighty Russian. Strongman royalty were also present as judges, officials and MCs. These included Magnus Ver Magnusson, Bill Kazmaier, Žydrunas Savickas, Mark Henry, Odd Haugen and David Webster O.B.E.

This DVD is a “must have” for all fans of the strongmen and their incredible feats of power and strength.

Classic Australian Contests of the '70s: With star guest posers.

In this DVD we have assembled our earliest Australian contest film footage going right back to 1972. Take a look back in time at the many greatest physique stars to grace a posing stage down under.

At some of these National Championships you will see star guest posers such as ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, FRANCO COLUMBU, SERGE NUBRET and ROGER WALKER. These superstar guests were at the peak of their careers. Of special note was the guest posing in 1972 of Arnold and Franco on the Australian Gold Coast in Queensland. They posed solo with long encores, and then performed a duo posing routine for the sell-out audience.

At the 1977 Mr. Australia see the sensational guest posing by SERGE NUBRET. ROGER WALKER, formerly from UK, later placed 6th in the 1980 Mr. Olympia representing Australia.

The top Aussie competitors include FRANK COLOMBERA, PAUL GRAHAM, GRAEME LANCEFIELD, IVAN DJIRLIC, CLYDE BIRD, JOHN KOZIURA, ROBERT NAILON, GEORGE SEREDYNSKI, ROBERT DEEGAN, PETER McCARTHY and SAMMY IOANNIDIS. Back in the 70s in Australia, nobody made any film record of Australian contests. Film was expensive and technology was difficult for recording live events on a low budget. Sound film was way more expensive and out of the question. In 1972 with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Franco Columbu coming to Australia as guest posers at the Southern Universe Contest on the Gold Coast, it was time to shoot some of my first ever major contest footage in Australia. This was followed by my filming at the 1972 Mr Australia. Both contests being held under IFBB rules.

This is a DVD of major historical importance both in the context of Aussie bodybuilding, but also for world bodybuilding. This was the early days of USA superstars making posing tours to overseas countries. It was also Arnold and Franco's first visit to Australia.

The day after the Gold Coast Southern Universe contest, I shot my classic pumping and posing films with Arnold and Franco poolside at the former Chevron Hotel pool in Surfer’s Paradise. On the rear cover you will see Robert Nailon’s historic photo from the end of my filming session showing Paul Graham with Arnold and Franco. My thanks to Robert for this great photograph. Paul Graham and Frank Colombera were the leading and most famous bodybuilders in Australia in the early 70s. In these 2 classic 1972 contests you will see Frank come out a very narrow winner over Paul. It has been my privilege to have recorded this early history of the sport in Australia on movie film. My thanks to promoter Bob Bruce who invited me to come and cover his event on film. He took an enormous financial risk at the time in bringing to Australia both Arnold and Franco. Bob is one of the unsung heroes in the history of the sport of bodybuilding in Australia.

The next major international star seen in this DVD is Serge Nubret, who was the special guest poser at the 1977 Mr. Australia won by Ivan Djirlic. This was 2 years after Serge was runner up to Arnold in the 1975 Mr. Olympia. He was in incredible shape and brought the house down, similarly to Arnold and Franco in Australia, 5 years before.
