The Legend of Wellness – Frank Zane

When you mention the name Frank Zane to a fitness or bodybuilding athlete, chances are their eyes will widen in worship over the man who made bodybuilding symmetry the standard of a quality physique. Frank Zane is a native to Pennsylvania and a three-time Mr. Olympia winner from 1977-1979. He is truly one the most notable bodybuilders in the history of the sport, defeating Arnold Schwarzenneger in the 1968 Mr. Universe Competition in Miami, Florida, and won Mr. Universe two more times in London, England in 1970 and 1972. In 1968, Frank also won the Mr. America in New York City, and Mr. World 1969 in Brugge, Belgium. In his 22-year competitive career, Frank won over 150 awards and was inducted into the Joe Weider Bodybuilding Hall of Fame in 1994.

Frank Zane began bodybuilding at age 14, out of a need to improve his physical well-being and protect himself and his younger brother, Adam. As a straight ‘A’ student, Frank recalls, “My Brother and I were the only Protestant kids in a totally Catholic town. We were persecuted! My brother was a precocious kid, a very good athlete and he would get into a lot of fights; so, I’d have to break them up. I wanted to feel more secure so, I tried different things like boxing, wrestling and all of that stuff. Then I discovered bodybuilding.” Frank trained briefly at a local YMCA. then bought a weight lifting set for home and he says, “In two weeks, muscles were coming out all over!

That really encouraged me, so I was very hungry for it. I pursued it until I was about 18, then I went into my first competition.” Frank graduated first in his high school class of 1960 in Edwardsville, Pennsylvania, winning a college scholarship. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from California State University-Los Angeles in 1977. Frank also received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Wilkes University, Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania in 1964, and was awarded a Master of Arts Degree in Experimental Psychology from California State University - San Bernardino, California in 1990.

Frank taught Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Natural Sciences, Physical Education, and Psychology in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Florida, and Los Angeles, California. from 1964 through 1977. Frank loved teaching because he wanted a job that would allow him to train and work at the same time. “Teaching seemed to fit the bill,” says Frank. “It wasn’t a lot of money, but I had he summers off.” In 1969, Frank moved to California and earned a degree in psychology, while landing another teaching job while training. Shortly thereafter, Frank moved and taught in Florida where he met his wife, Christine, and soon won the Mr. Universe and Mr. America.

Tonya Knight has become known the world over for her outstanding body, which some say is the most perfect specimen of the female form ever. She is a Miss International having won the women’s bodybuilding class at the Arnold Classic, and has also won the Italian Bodybuilding Grand Prix. SERGIO OLIVA – “The Myth” 3 TIME MR. OLYMPIA - 1967, 1968 & 1969

The Key Contents:

1972 Outdoor filming: London
This historic footage was shot by Wayne on Wanstead Heath, in London, 2 days after the 1972 Mr Olympia where Sergio narrowly lost to Arnold in Essen, Germany. The action depicted in this sequence is said by many to be the greatest ever pumping and posing footage to be captured outdoors on film, showing a Mr Olympia title holder in top contest condition.

Sergio oiled up, pumped up with dumbells then posed his heart out for the camera, delivery a virtuoso posing rendition of his Mr Olympia posing routine. This was then topped off with bodypart posing in closeup. In particular the posing of Sergio's arms was awesome to behold, to put it mildly! Complete with the famous "Myth" arms up in the air pose.

While Wayne was busy filming, famous gym owner and long time friend Wag Bennett was snapping away getting photos to record this historic film shoot for posterity. You will see some of these photos in the DVD's Photo Gallery. Wag also shot the photo (coming soon below) of Wayne taking photos of Sergio with the big old Mamiya camera affectionately known as "The Tank"!

1977 Outdoor filming: Paris
Once again this footage was shot by Wayne, this time on the day after Sergio won the Pro Class of the 1977 WABBA World Championships. This classic men's contest was staged by Serge Nubret in Paris, where Sergio had guest posed at the Nubret's promoted Mr Olympia event 6 years earlier. Sergio's 1971 guest posing is included in this DVD on "The Myth".

The popular shooting formula was used again at pool-side with Sergio first of all oiling and pumping up before launching into his classic and once again winning posing routine. In this segment Sergio is assisted in his pumping up by Miss Olympus Lynde Johnson who willingly obliged by sitting on his back while he did pushups! At the end of the posing routine segment, Sergio again gave us some mind blowing closeup posing of various bodyparts for Wayne's super 8 film camera.

After the usual posing for photos, which again you can see in the Photo Gallery, the filming session was all over far too quickly as it became freezing cold at pool side! As far as we know, these were the only 2 professional outdoor film posing sessions ever shot with Sergio during his long career.

Sergio in the Gym: Chicago
We are indebted to Sergio and Frank Marchante, Sergio's biographer, for allowing us to use some highlights from the training video offered by Sergio in the mid 80s. It is now no longer available and is extremely rare footage.

My sincere thanks to all of the people who contributed footage and photos to make this a fitting tribute to SERGIO OLIVA, truly one of the greatest bodybuilders who ever lived. The Myth is now a reality and preserved for all to enjoy on DVD. All the many contributors are thanked in the end credits of the DVD.

The 1972 Sergio footage was previously part of my videos V-115 with Frank Zane. This Sergio footage is now the key part of the above DVD. Later this year the FRANK ZANE outdoor posing from video V-115 will become the key part of my History of Frank Zane DVD.

Ronnie Coleman – Invincible 2 Disc Set

The first part of this DVD was shot on July 9th and 10th 2007 on Ronnie’s final off-season week. This was 12 weeks out from the 2007 Olympia. Then more taping again on September 3rd and 4th, 2007 - just 3 weeks out from last year’s Olympia.

The DVD includes a final body check by Ronnie’s nutritionist Chad Nicholls on the day of the Olympia, September 28th, 2007 in his hotel room.

Ronnie mentions that his diet has changed from last year and explains how and why. His weight training regime has also changed. All training sessions were shot at Big Ron's home gym in Texas.

Ron TeufelL and Suemitsu - Platinum Edition

RON TEUFEL was filmed on the Santa Monica beach, in California, back in July 1977. He was just out of his teens. It was a
beautiful sunny day and Ron was in superb shape having recently competed in the AAU Mr. America. He stands 5'6" tall and weighs 190 lbs of solid muscle.

Ron was a Mr. USA and Teen Mr. America and one of the best built shorter men that I have ever worked with.

Most notable were his incredible abs, rock hard physique which appeared to be hewn out of granite and his excellent arms. Photos I took of Ron made the covers of Iron Man magazine in November 1977 and May 1979, and Muscular Development in December 1978. Ron sadly passed away in December 2002. Highlights of Ron's career included the following:

This segment runs for 27mins.

SUEMITSU is awesome! A combination of Padilla and Columbu with the grace and skill of Zane!! An incredible mass of muscle. The finest physique of his day in all of Asia. SUEMITSU was MR. JAPAN, MR. ASIA, MR. UNIVERSE SHORT CLASS and PROFESSIONAL MR. JAPAN. One of the leading Asian physiques of the 70’s, this was filmed when SUEMITSU was at the peak of his perfection.
He is still venerated in JAPAN today as one of the ALL-TIME greats of bodybuilding.

Richard Baldwin - Super Tape

We have put together all of our film footage on Mr America RICHARD BALDWIN to make a fantastic SUPER TAPE.

It was said by famous IRONMAN Magazine writer Roger Schwab:“Richard Baldwin has a fine, graceful physique, the type the general public can identify with.” This DVD starts off with Richard’s performance at the 1977 AAU Mr. USA.
Next we see Richard in extreme “muscle worship” type close-ups, from oiling and pumping to posing on the beautiful Venice Beach in California. Includes full body and close-up posing, with emphasis on the best biceps in the Mr America contest of 1978.

The second part was filmed at “Muscle Rocks” near Malibu in July, 1978. Shot on a brutally hot day, with sweat dripping and muscles pumping and flexing, this sequence is a Baldwin classic. Many close-ups as DANNY PADILLA helps Richard pump up before Richard poses solo and then duo with Padilla. The duo posing turns into a posedown in this famous sun-drenched location!

The final sequence shows Richard competing in the middleweight class of the 1980 IFBB World Amateur Championships in the Philippines followed by a gallery of 41 superb photos showing Richard at his ‘sliced and diced’ peak.

This compilation of all of our Richard Baldwin footage includes the "Muscle Rocks" posing sequence never seen before on video. It includes fantastic sequences of Baldwin's solo posing plus duo footage with future Mr Olympia competitor, DANNY PADILLA.

I waited with anticipation for the "Richard Baldwin Super DVD" and was not disappointed! The DVD arrived quickly and every moment of it was pure viewing satisfaction. The color and content were even better than expected. There's something about Wayne's style of filming, then transferring the footage from classic 8mm film to DVD, which is pure "nostalgic" joy! Richard is presented in top form, first pumping, oiling then posing. Each shot providing the viewer with motivation and inspiration! Richard has a "realistic" physique that inspires the average person to become motivated, as well as inspiring the seasoned bodybuilder. REGIANE DA SILVA - IFBB FITNESS PRO - THE LATIN SENSATION

Regiane Da Silva burst onto the Professional scene in 2006, after a stellar rise through the amateur ranks. She has competed in USA since 2006, where her career has taken off. Her best placing ever was 4th last year at the Arnold Classic Fitness International, but who knows where this amazing athlete will place this year.

The DVD follows Regiane through her career starting in 2002 at FIBO in Germany. We are taken through a full-body workout in her own gym, and see all her professional career highlights from 2006 to 2009.

Next our cameras follow her through photo shoots in Germany and Las Vegas – this is one HOT lady! The Las Vegas poolside pumping and posing was shot on the day after the Fitness Olympia. Regiane is in sensational shape.

This DVD is topped off with a brief interview with John Hansen and intimate pump room footage at the 2009 Fitness Olympia, plus the prejudging and show routines from the same event. This is the most important Professional Fitness DVD we have ever produced. This is why we have kept in the German language parts for our many German customers in the Extra Scenes. A clever premise, involving Dave and his training partner Mat Duvall as volunteers in an experiment to create superhuman cyborgs, who have to protect a future legislator from an anti-bodybuilding faction. As a legislator, this guy is destined to preserve the future of bodybuilding in the next century.

Interwoven in the plot is serious hardcore instruction. At Bev Francis' gym in Syosset, Dave and Mat show the basic exercises for working pecs, delts (with Dave's beautiful fiancé Barbara Moran providing inspiration), arms and legs. They are joined by Jim "Iron Bull" Pellechia for a super back workout. Greg Kovacs appears at the end. There are also segments on diet and nutrition as well as the benefits of chiropractic treatment. No one is more knowledgeable than Dave is when it comes to serious training and dieting. There is even a visit to the Seaford Palace, one of the best Long Island eateries. But Dave proves that it takes more than cheeseburgers to become a 300-pound hardcore bodybuilder!

Dave does not forget the importance of posing. A terrific segment features posing expert John Maglio who puts Dave through the symmetry round, compulsory poses and 60-second routine. To be a successful competitor, this is an essential part of the equation.

Dave oversaw much of the production as executive producer, director (with Mat), and writer among other functions. If you're looking for a solid workout tape with expert instruction presented in an entertaining and humorous fashion, look no further. This is the DVD you've been wanting! This is a hilarious and informative DVD.

Pearls of Wisdom - Bill Pearl

This DVD is genuinely one of the rarest in my collection. Very little footage exists on the great BILL PEARL, author of "Keys to the Inner Universe" and other well known books. He is also probably one of the world's greatest bodybuilding trainers. Bill has been the force behind many of the world's top physiques for the past 30 years, including the great Chris Dickerson, Mr. Olympia 1982.

BILL PEARL is assisted in the seminar in Australia by his long time friend DENNIS TINERINO. Their Pearls of Wisdom cover such subjects as diet advice, nutrition versus drugs, training philosophy for bodybuilders and athletes, bodybuilding politics, contest preparation, sleep, pain barriers, injuries and much more. Any serious bodybuilder will be fascinated by the information given jointly by BILL and DENNIS in this master class seminar.

It was shot only a few days after Dennis won the IFBB Professional Mr. Universe title in Sydney, Australia. He maintained his magnificent condition for the seminar as you will see during his flawless posing routine. I was a big fan of this DVD! I would have to say that it was probably my favourite of the three DVDs produced by MuscleTime. If all of them maintain the same quality, they will have a good future ahead of them in terms of producing DVDs. Victor also has a great personality and is very good in front of the camera. Mr. Olympia – The Golden Years: 1971, 1974, 1975, 1979

In this historic Olympia DVD presentation, we have gathered together our rare and mostly previously unseen Olympia segments that were shot on super 8 film in the Golden 70s. As each segment seemed too short to release at the time, nothing happened till we obtained the wonderful and fantastic quality 20 minute film from the 1979 Mr. Olympia. This shows Frank Zane in his all time best condition defeating Mike Mentzer to win the Overall 1979 Mr. Olympia crown in Columbus Ohio.

These are not complete Olympias but consists of the only known footage shot on film at these famous contests. All of the 3 1979 contests are exceptional quality.

1971 Olympia footage from Paris is short but extremely rare and does include the 2 guest posers Sergio and Franco.
In 1974 see the titanc battle between old rivals Arnold and Lou Ferrigno with Arnold coming out on top.

In 1975 in South Africa it was Arnold once again over Serge Nubret with Franco taking out the lighter class.Arnold retired after this contest.

1979 it was back in Columbus where Frank Zane took the overall title from Heavyweight Class winner Mike Mentzer. Cameraman Joel Fletcher concentrated in particular on Frank Zane in this contest. It is an absolute feast of posing for Zane fans and an ideal way to study the master posing style of Fank Zane - the master poser.

Some of this old film footage has had the colour deteriorate with time. However the bodies we show portray priceless images of our past great champions of the sport. This is a Legends of the Olympias of the 70s DVD. Shot on super 8 film and digitally transferred to DVD with copyright free music added.

This was shot several years ago with older technology and the DVD looks exactly as good as the original camera tapes. At times a slow shutter speed was used to create a special effect. This was not something that we could remove in the authoring process. The DVD is still most enjoyable and a unique record of guys who had little publicy on video at the time.

MIKE MENTZER - THE FINAL CHAPTER, with RAY MENTZER

This 3rd and final DVD consists of all of our remaining segments of Mike and Ray Mentzer in one super DVD feature. It is a tribute to these 2 wonderful bodybuilders who sadly passed away in June 2001. The first half of the DVD is devoted to Mike with Part 2 showcasing Ray. Here is a brief description of the various segments.

MIKE MENTZER TRAINING AT HOME

The legendary Mike Mentzer at his awesome best - a full length home posing and pumping display with closeups on all body parts. This was filmed in Mike's apartment, in West L.A. in July 1978. It was the final solo posing session Wayne shot with Mike. He was in ripped pre-contest condition and performed muscle control that will blow your mind, including the incredibly difficult isolation 'rope' pose!! Every muscle fibre, every vein and every sinew was on display as the camera goes right in for some incredible closeups.

Mike displayed each body part in slow, deliberate flexing, rippling poses. He gave his absolute all. Includes oiling, pumping and dumbell workout. A brutal filming session - according to a sweat soaked Mike! See what he had to say about this filming session in his comments written into his training book he signed and gave Wayne at the end of the shoot!

For 21" arm lovers and those who appreciate the magic and charisma of MIKE MENTZER at his peak, this whole DVD is a must. The Mike Mentzer at home segment is the highlight of the DVD and runs for 28 minutes.

This final DVD on Mike and Ray has been 12 months in the making as we researched and gathered together all of our material. In the years 1977 and 1978 I took around 250 photos of Mike and Ray. I went through every photo on file in selecting the best ones for the DVD photo gallery. I have selected 36 exquisite photos of the brothers which had never ever been scanned or seen before. I think you will enjoy this unique look at the Mentzers at their peak in both colour and B&W photos. These rare unseen photos were all taken at my various filming sessions with them in those 2 years.

This half of the DVD starts off with Ray in contest mode:
1979 IFBB Amateur World Championships where you see Ray placing a very close second to Jusup Wilcosz in the heavyweight class.
1980 Ray Mentzer guest posing at the AAU Mr. America show.
1985 Ray is shown guest posing at the Mr. Capital City show in London.

The DVD ends with the wonderful 30 minute documentary "Ray Mentzer Mr. America - The man behind the title". GMV purchased the copyright to this rare gem which has been unseen outside Europe. Full English soundtrack. Shot in Germany in 1981 when Ray was guest posing at the German Championships, it starts out with various sites in and around Munich, Germany. See Ray Interviewed by his friend Rachel McLish, Ms Olympia. The film includes various scenes of Ray posing, eating, jogging, taking his gym workout followed by some rare scenes of Rachel McLish working out.

Ray was quite an all-round sportsman and you even get to see his skill as he goes windsurfing. The climax of the whole documentary shows Ray on stage in an extraordinary, extended posing routine at the 1981 German Bodybuilding Championships.

Mike & Ray Mentzer: In The Gym

The awesome Mentzer brothers, fuelled by their intense rivalry, show what they can do when they pump iron.

Filmed in the gym late at night, they blast their way through display workout routines with heavy weights which are a little less than they would normally use!!

Mike and Ray each go through their most incredible workouts, muscles dripping with sweat - the intensity, muscle display and sheer power will shock you!

After Mike flexes and poses each muscle group, hard and pumped, they head for Venice Beach. Ray Mentzer oils, pumps and poses in a fantastic solo presentation, for the final 15 minutes of the tape.

This video V-121 was shot on silent super 8 film back in July 1978 while Mike and Ray were working out in the gym. It was not just a staged pump-up. At that time no one deemed them worthy of a full professional 16mm film production complete with sound and a big budget in order to do it the way some videos are shot today. Back then I had the foresight and luck to get the 2 guys into the gym and record as much as I could afford to do with the technology available at the time. This was about 4 years before home video cameras came onto the world market.
